Why do I need DKIM Setup?

Let's say you own a company My Pancakes with domain mypancakes.com. You setup an autoresponder that goes out from [email protected]. Since you haven't setup DKIM keys, your emails will be signed by MailMunch's domain and your subscribers will see the following headers in the email:

Some Email Service Providers (ESPs) mark emails as spam if the signing domain is not the same as the sending domain. In this case:

Signing Domain: mail2.mailmunch.io
Sending Domain: mypancakes.com

Unmatched domains raise a red flag and can result in your emails going into spam or not being accepted at all in the first place.

How do I setup DKIM on MailMunch?

MailMunch lets you setup DKIM signing keys for your domain (mypancakes.com) so that any outgoing emails that we send on your behalf are also signed by your own domain. To do that, follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Click on Manage Site present on the top navigation bar.

Step 2: Click on the Domain & Emails tab.

Step 3: Your domain name is visible in the Email Domains section. If you don't see it, click on the Add Email Domain button and enter it in the text box. Click on the Add Domain button to proceed.

Click on the Fix it! button against your domain name.

Step 4: You'll see a modal similar to following. Note down the Key and Value for your DKIM record.

Note: The key is the bold part and not the full domain. In the above screenshot, the key is: scph0517._domainkey

Step 5: Once you've copied these values, you need to create a TXT Record for your domain with your domain registrar hosting your domain name servers. Here's a list of the most common ones:

Step 6: Once you've created the TXT record for your domain, you need to tell MailMunch to verify it.

Click on the Verify Records button and we'll perform verifications for your domain.

Step 7: Once the verifications are complete, you'll see the following notice:

How do I verify that my DKIM records are actually working?

All emails with proper DKIM setup will look like this:

Note: The signed-by domain and the sending domain are the same and therefore, ESPs will not mark this email as spam for signing mismatch reasons.
