How to Manage Your Subscriber Preferences in Mailmunch

Mailmunch lets you give your subscribers control over which email lists they want to stay subscribed to when they click the unsubscribe link in your emails. This article shows you how the preference-based unsubscribe page works and how to configure it.

What Is the Preference-Based Unsubscribe Page?

When a subscriber clicks the Unsubscribe link in an email, Mailmunch can show a preference page that:

  • Displays all the lists the subscriber is part of

  • Let's them opt out of specific lists instead of all emails

This is an alternative to the classic unsubscribe method, which removes the subscriber from all emails at once.

What Subscribers See When They Click Unsubscribe

  1. Updated Unsubscribe Page (if enabled)

  • Subscribers see the new design with all eligible email lists.

  • They can select which lists to unsubscribe from individually.

  1. Classic Unsubscribe Page (default)

  • If the preference feature isn’t enabled for your account, subscribers see the older unsubscribe experience.

The updated preference page shows only the lists you’ve marked to display here. Other lists won’t appear.

How to Set Up Which Lists Appear

To control what appears on the preference page:

  1. Go to Contacts > Lists in your Mailmunch dashboard.

  2. Open any list you want to configure.

  3. Set the following fields:

  • List Display Name — How the list appears to subscribers

  • List Description — Explains what emails the list contains

  • Show in Subscriber Preference center — Toggle this on to show the list on the unsubscribe preference page

Only lists with Show Preferences enabled will be visible to subscribers.

Subscriber Behavior on the Preference Page

  • Subscribers can opt out of any individual list they select.

  • Opting out of one list does not unsubscribe them from others they have not selected.

  • Lists with “Show Preferences” disabled will not appear.

Best Practices Before Enabling Preferences

  • Use clear list names that subscribers easily understand.

  • Add helpful descriptions so subscribers know what content they’ll receive.

  • Only show lists that matter to subscribers on the preference page.

Note:

Subscriber Preferences aren’t turned on by default, but you can easily request them! Just reach out to our Customer Success team, and we’ll enable it for your site.

Once it’s on, all your lists will start with “Show Preferences = No”, and you can pick which ones to show to your subscribers.
